Swaddle Designs

I love babies…all babies! And my FAVORITE image of a newborn baby is when they are wrapped nice and tight in a warm blankie. My husband calls this the "baby burrito". Experts call it "swaddling".

The definition of swaddling is, "to bind (an infant, esp. a newborn infant) with long, narrow strips of cloth to prevent free movement; wrap tightly with clothes." Infants love to be swaddled for many reasons, primarily because it reminds them of being cozy and warm in their mother's womb. Parents are taught in the hospital how to swaddle their baby…but no new parent can achieve that nice tight wrap as well as the nurse did…let alone remember how to do it! Alas, the answer to our prayers…the Ultimate Receiving Blanket by Swaddle Designs.

The Ultimate Receiving Blanket is one of the prettiest things to enter my house. Not only is this blanket beautiful (solid pastel blue with chocolate mod circles), but it is made of the softest, pre-shrunk cotton flannel that reminds me of my coziest set of winter sheets. Designed to perfectly swaddle your baby, the 1 2 3 Swaddle instructions are sewn on to the blanket for a quick reference. No need for parents to panic on "how to"…your cheat sheet is right there!

Invented by Lynette Damir, a registered nurse, along with consultation from PhDs in the field of infant research, the Ultimate Receiving Blanket is a "must have" for any new parent. And, for great information on the benefits of swaddling, check out the website, Swaddle Designs. Be sure to also check out the gorgeous Baby Burpies made in coordinating fabric!

Enjoy…and happy swaddling!

Focoloco
Have you ever found yourself sleepwalking through the monotonous and unexciting baby clothes section of a department store?
Have you ever had nightmares after spending an hour in a baby store proposing faux velvet leopard outfits for 3 months old baby girls?
Have you ever come back from a shopping trip completely disappointed by the pale uninspired clothes you had to get for your baby so that he/she had at least something to wear?
Been there? Done that?

I found your rescuer!

"Think of us as the garish orange life vest saving you from drowning in a sea of pastels"
Suzy Helme, creator and designer of Focoloco

Thanks to Focoloco designs, I've just been saved…I did not know there were so many pretty colors out there!
And Suzy knows how to use colors to compliment her amazing designs. Her drawing style abounds with magic, enchantment, delight, émerveillement and wickedness. I can not emphasize enough how talented she is and how her designs are just preciously unique.
So don't ask which one is my favorite...I love them all!
"Spin'N Play", "CEO of Monkey Business", "Partie de jardin", "I'm with the band", "Cheeky Cowboy", "Butterfly", "Silly Blue flower", "Rocket Boy",...

For each design, Focoloco offers different quality garments to choose from: onesie -short and long sleeves-, lap tee -short and long sleeves-, jersey tee, raglan, hat and bib; all -with the exception of the raglans- in five different colors. All are manufactured in the USA by the famous American Apparel and about half of them are made of organically grown cotton.

I encourage you to take a look at Focoloco's web site. Visiting it is like walking through an art gallery that has a rainbow for entry door.
In her blog "Neck Deep in Monkey Business", you will also discover more of Suzy's brisk and crispy personality…never mincing words...I like that.

Want to say bye-bye to the boring colors and namby-pamby prints but Hello to the bright happy colors and pert, funny, funky patterns? Enter Focoloco's web site.

Safety Duck
Did you know that "The Chicken Dance" was written and composed by a Belgian named Jean-Jacques Blairon, alias J.J. Lionel? That's right, and actually the original title is "La danse des canards"…"The Duck Dance". No chicken involved.
Why am I talking about chicken and ducks? Well because the first thought I had when I saw the "Safety Duck" bathtub by Munchkin was that I could teach my daughter "The Duck Dance" in it.

I was looking for a new bathtub for her since she had outgrown the one I used during her first year. I was not sure exactly what type or what model I should buy, what she would enjoy or not…Babies are all different as we all know.
So it really was perchance that I found this tub. I was first seduced by the look of it- a bright yellow duck with an orange beak; really cute…Any baby would love that.
Then I liked the fact that it is an inflatable tub for several reasons:
- Just deflate it, fold it and it will take no room inside your bathroom closet, inside your car or your suitcase while traveling.
- My daughter is always moving around in her bath: standing, turning around, dancing, sitting down, etc…But I never worry so much anymore because this tub is like a big air cushion all around her.
- Once your baby outgrows his/her first newborn tub, you may consider purchasing either a suction bath seat or just use the big bathtub…However, to the contrary of those last two solutions, with this tub, you do not have to fill in the whole bathtub with water…and if you view water as "blue gold", like I do, it is a big deal and a big money/water/energy saver at the end of the month…

I had to give it a try!

Once I received it and used it for the first time, all the nice little details to it finished convincing me it was a great purchase:
- The non slip bottom surface…
- The strong suction cup underneath it to keep it in place in the big bathtub while using it or to hang it against the bathtub's wall once bath time is over…
- The tight plug at the bottom, just pull it and it drains very easily…
- The nice size (31"x19")…My 13-month old daughter is long for her age but she barely fills in half of it, which leaves plenty of space for all her toys…
- There are two separate inflatable parts on that tub: the bottom surface and the rest of the tub. So if your baby does not like to sit on an air mattress, no problem, just leave it flat…
- The versatility of that tub…I already imagine it as a mini swimming pool next summer in our backyard or at the beach…
- And last but not least: THE QUACKING BEAK…Squeeze the orange beak and the duck will quack…Could it be funnier? I don?t think so! Oh she loves it…she laughs and she laughs…

My daughter adores that tub. She gets so excited when she knows she is going to take a bath…You should see her crawling up the stairs in the direction of the bathroom…This is definitely one of her favorite parts of the day and that tub is the main reason for that excitement.

Now you must think: "with the fun goes the price…" Well, guess what? It is only $9.99!!
You have to give it a try, too! And at that price why not buy another one for the Aunties, the Nanny or the Grandparents (Look Grandma, it won't take any place in your closet when baby is gone!) to bring the fun and The Duck Dance to their houses as well!

Perfect for babies over 9 or 10 months old: the Safety Duck

Allez, dansons!
